Guided by the Moon, Usagi is the focus of the show. At first, she was a whiny little brat who would cry at almost everything, but later, she grew stronger and learned to mature. She was told that she was Sailor Moon by her cat guardian Luna, whom she rescued from some kids picking on her. Usagi is also a real klutz, tripping and falling everywhere. She goes to Juuban Junior High with Ami and Mako-chan, and later to Juuban High School. She isn't the smartest or most coordinated person, but she is the most caring and has the biggest heart. She is also the most friendly, for she was the one that befriended Ami and Mako-chan.

As Sailor Moon, she is the most powerful in terms of weapons and destroying enemies, though she is somewhat clumsy in battle too. Sailor Moon also goes through many incarnations. After obtaining the Holy Grail, which is formed when the 3 talismans are combined, she becomes Super Sailor Moon, and later, she becomes Eternal Sailor Moon.

Usagi is also the daughter of Queen Serenity, the queen of the Moon Kingdom, making her Princess Serenity. In the 30th century Crystal Tokyo, she becomes Neo Queen Serenity, with Mamoru as King Endymion and Chibiusa as their daughter, Small Lady.

In the first season, her fuku is a navy blue skirt with her transformation brooch mounted on her red bow on the front, and she has a red bow in the back. Her choker is red with a golden crescent moon, and her collar is navy blue with two white stripes. She wears knee high red boots with a crescent moon on it, her earrings are a crescent moon hanging from some pearls, and her gloves are elbow high with a red trim.

Her second season fuku is similar with the exception of the transformation brooch, which mounts the Silver Crystal.

Her third transformation (before the Holy Grail) is the same, except her choker now has a heart, and there are several decorations (ranging from a simple heart to her transformation brooch) mounted on her bow, and her tiara has a crescent moon mounted on it. When she obtains the Holy Grail and becomes Super Sailor Moon, her fuku is now a white skirt, trimmed with yellow and blue, and collar with two yellow stripes, transparent sleeves, a heart belt around her waist, and a long lavender bow in the back, as well as pointed finials on her head, her choker is golden with a red heart, and no pearls from her earring.

In Sailor Moon Supers, the only difference is that her button is a winged pink heart with a golden crescent moon.

Eternal Sailor Moon's fuku is a navy blue collar with three yellow stripes, her front bow becomes a pair of white wings with a golden heart and crescent moon mounted on it, with pink puffed shoulders. Her skirt is a layered (from inside to outside) navy blue, red, and golden yellow. Her choker is red with a golden heart and crescent moon on it, and has pointed finials on her head; no tiara, but a crescent moon on her forehead, golden crescent moon and star earrings, and two pairs of wings on her back. She has a long red ribbon on the back. Her gloves are past her elbows trimmed in red with feathers, and her boots are white trimmed in red with a crescent moon.

Moon Power Make up!: Usagi holds up her brooch, and chants these words to become Sailor Moon
Moon Power ... ni Nare: Usagi holds up the henshin pen and becomes whatever she wishes for
Moon Tiara Action: Sailor Moon removes her tiara, which becomes a disk. She then throws it at the target like a frisbee, which destroys the target
Moon Healing Escalation: Sailor Moon uses the Crescent Moon Wand to heal the youma back to normal

Moon Crystal Make up!: Usagi holds up her brooch with the Ginzuishou and chants these words to become Sailor Moon
